Fall 2008
Volume 84, Number 3

Meet LSU’s eighth chancellor, Dr. Michael V. Martin, who assumed chancellorship on August 1, 2008. Prior to his appointment, Chancellor Martin established a distinguished career in higher education, serving most recently as president of New Mexico State University. And read about the people and programs in two more of the University’s eleven Foundations of Excellence units – the Department of Chemistry and the School of Music. The issue also features the winners of LSU Alumni Association Purple and Gold Awards – those individuals who generously share their time, talents, and resources to further Association goals – and visits with LSU alum John S. Butler, distinguished professor of management and sociology at the University of Texas-Austin, and benefactor Sugar Woods of Shreveport.
